A Diamond that Hangs by a Thread

The Wayang Bocor will present a new work titled “Permata di Ujung Tanduk” (A Diamond that Hangs by a Thread) that was written and directed by Gunawan Maryanto. This text was adapted from his poem “Sakuntala”, which was published by PT Gramedia Pustaka Utama.

The first performance will be presented at the 2019 “JENTERA” Literature Musicalization Event stage at the Concert Hall, Taman Budaya Yogyakarta, on September 20, 2019, at 8 PM. This event is an annual routine program of Taman Budaya Yogyakarta, which presents the staging of literary works both in Indonesian and Javanese, in various forms of art performances that prioritize the use of musical elements. This show will also be presented in a more intimate stage space in November or December (time and place still to be confirmed).

In addition to Yogyakarta, The Wayang Bocor will also perform in Jakarta six times at Dia.Lo.Gue Artspace Kemang, on October 24-27 2019 in the Kelola Alumni Festival program, Wayang Bocor Series. This performance is a manifestation of The Wayang Bocor’s support for Kelola Foundation in its fundraising program, which is currently being initiated. It is a new program from Kelola Foundation that aims to raise funds for the development of Kelola Foundation program by utilizing the Kelola Foundation’s alumni network (art groups that have received funding from the Kelola Art Grants program). All ticket sales or other income related to this program will belong to Kelola Foundation.

Synopsis of “Sakuntala”
A baby was lain on the banks of Malini river. Sakuni birds took care of the baby and guarded it from danger. She is Sakuntala. A woman whose name was erased. She was the mother of Bharata, the ancestor of the Pandavas and the Kauravas.
Her love story with King Dusyanta did not end happily. Her presence was never recognized by him. She was banished for the second time.
In Wayang Bocor, Sakuntala renounce her destiny, refused injustice, refused to be removed.
